hancock happenings

Take this test!
You are Marge from The Simpsons. You may not share Marge's blue bouffant, but you do share her animated style of mothering. Sometimes the pressures of maintaining a happy home may push you toward the edge, but at the end of the day, you believe in your children wholeheartedly, even when they're being rather, um, spirited.

You encourage your kids' creativity and individuality, whether that means watching them perform the saxophone or helping them raise exotic lizards. You may sometimes say things that sound like old-fashioned parenting clichés, but when it comes down to dealing with domestic disasters, you can be a pretty together, modern mama.
I took this twice because I couldn't decide on some of the answers. If I'm like Marge does that mean my kids are like Bart? and Bryce like Homer? :)

Tagged by Missy

I have never actually taken the opportunity to do a Tag but this one is pretty fun so I'll give it a try. Since I'm using this blog as a sort of journal this will be good to record for posterity right?

What was I doing ten years ago? (1998)

I was a mommy to two little kids, well almost two, I was still pregnant with Marlie. We were living in Wellington, Ut. in our first house. Keaton was about to turn 3 and was about to put me into an early grave. I just remember that he was so difficult. I'm sure being pregnant didn't help my tolerance level but I was always exhausted in every way trying to raise this kid! He was so big that I couldn't physically make him do anything he refused to do, so it was very frustrating. he still wasn't potty trained and the baby was coming soon. He still had to be next to me to fall asleep. I started letting him fall asleep on the couch because I was too pregnant to lay in his twin bed with him. He had to have chocolate milk in a sippy cup to go to bed too, most of the time he didn't even drink it, he just wanted to hold it. I was Young Women's President in my ward. I guess 10 years ago I was busy trying to figure out how to be a parent! (I'm still trying to figure it out !!)

5 things on my "to do" list today
1) mop the kitchen floor, it's getting scary.
2) make cookies for "thank you's"
3) laundry, that's on my list EVERYDAY
4) go to Savers to look for things to sell on Ebay
5) go to Enrichment Night

5 things that I enjoy

5) Cooking, trying new recipes.

3 of my bad habits
Only 3? It's hard to choose only 3. I don't want to be too revealing,
so these are some of the least serious bad habits........:)

1) Gas station nachos.....YUM.
2) Not washing my face before bed and applying anti-wrinkle cream.
3) Not exercising.....bad,bad,bad!!!!

5 places I have lived

1) Idaho:Blackfoot and Pocatello

2) Utah: Provo,Orem, Wellington, Payson

3) Laie, Hawaii

4) Tokyo, Japan

5) Cupertino, CA

5 jobs I have had

1) McDonald's cashier- yes, back when the uniforms were brown polyester.

2) I worked at two different garden center/nurseries

3) apartment manager

4) Retail cashier (KB Toys, Kmart, Gymboree)

5) real estate appraisal photographer

5 things people don't know about me

I am a pretty open book, so there isn't a lot people don't know about me but I'll give it a shot.

1) I was in the Jr, Miss pageant in high school (I know you are all laughing)

2) It took me 7 years of going to college to get my bachelor degree, nine years after I graduated from high school. But I did it!

3) I don't know how to swim.

4) I spent 6 weeks in Europe after I graduated from high school. I was visiting and traveling with my friend Stine who lives in Denmark. What a great experience!!

5) I want to go to culinary school someday. I also have a secret dream of opening an ice cream store. Payson really needs an ice cream store. :)

I am tagging everyone who reads this! Try it, it's fun. Just do it!!

BYU ROOMIES

On Tuesday, last week, I had a get together will two of my roomates from my freshman year at BYU. Janet was in Utah with her family for some business. Cathy lives in Lehi which is pretty close to me. We met at Los Hermanos in Lindon. We each brought our daughters with us. It's kinda weird that all of us have 2 or 3 boys and only one daughter. It was really fun seeing them again. I haven't see Janet for five years, since she moved to CA. Janet lived with me after our freshman year and we also went to BYU Hawaii together. We had so many fun times! I'm so glad that I have been able to keep in touch with these two girls. We have been friends now for 20 YEARS !!! That is so hard to believe. I am going to add some old pics to this post later but for now I'll post our get-together. Janet's daughter, Brenna is the same age as Marlie. They are our "mini-me's". Cathy's daughter just turned 1, I don't know why I don't have a picture of her!

I LOVE EBAY!!!!

I am getting serious about selling things on e-bay now! It is so fun. Today I sold these Salt and Pepper shakers. I got them for free, someone I know was giving them to the D.I, so I took them off their hands. I sold them today for $30.00. Score!! I love going out hunting for things at Savers, D.I., and yard sales. My brother Kevan is an ebay guru. He is teaching me some of the best sellers and giving me some pointers. He makes good money of his sales. I have been looking for a part time job, maybe this will start paying off for me......wouldn't that be nice!!
(If anybody knows that these are worth more than $30.00, don't tell me!! I didn't know anything about them.)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!

I know I'm a little bit slow with my Valentines Day greeting. I hope you all a had a nice Valentine's day! We did here. The kids had fun with their Valentine's day parties at school. They had fun when they got home looking at all of their valentines and eating all of their treats. I always make pink sugar cookies on Valentines day. I make them while the kids are gone so they come home to a counter full of heart cookies.

Bryce and I went out to dinner at PF Changs. I made reservations a week or so before. It's a good thing I did, they were booked, along with every other restaraunt in town. Dinner was really good. Lettuce wraps, YUM! Bryce gave me a dozen roses, 9 red and 3 white. They were very pretty. He is such a sweet husband. He never forgets a special occasion. I gave him See's chocolate. I'm nice too! but I have a selfish motive behind my gift, I get to eat it too!!

ALAN JACKSON LIVE!!!!!

On Feb. 8th Alan Jackson came to SLC. Keaton loves AJ so we gave him tickets for Christmas. It was so fun seeing him at his first concert. He was so excited! My sister Lori is the world biggest AJ fan. She came down from Idaho with my neice Jessica and my parents and we all went to the concert together. We had a lot of fun. I have resisted being a country music fan for years! I would say for the last year and a half or so I have been converted. I still like other music too but I am a fan of country now. I was joking with Lori on the way to the concert saying that AJ's song "Gone Country" was written about me. The song says, "Gone country, back to her roots....". I guess I still have some Idaho in me!! The cool thing is that was the first song he played when he came out! It was pretty funny. Keaton is taking guitar lessons now and loved watching all of the guitar playing.

It was a fun weekend!!!!!!!

HE DID WHAT????

I have to do a post on the week I've had with Connor! Let's start with the biggest and best of all of his "tricks". He decided to try the scissors on his hair. Yes that is the huge chunk of hair that he cut off to the scalp! I don't know how he got it that short with scissors! I had no choice to buzz his whole head! We were all laughing about it and so was he unitil I started shaving his head. He suddenly realized what was happening and he started to cry. He said, "Hey, I need that !!"(meaning his hair) It was so funny. Of course that made us laugh even more and made him even more mad.

He looks so weird with his hair gone.
He looks like a cancer patient.

Here is a list of Connor's "Best" for this week.

1. I took him to the Library for story time. We were standing at the counter to check out our books and the librarian pointed at something behind me with this look of shock on her face. I turned around Connor had pushed two shelves of books onto the floor. It had been less than 30 seconds since he stepped away from me! How could he do that so fast? So I spent the next 15 minutes "convincing" him that we would be staying there until he picked them up. He finally after much whining and tantrum helped pick up the books. The librarian was ticked and made me feel like such a loser mom. I was actually writing a check for our late fees when he did it. Not a self-esteem building moment.

2. I had to take Keaton somewhere and told Marlie to watch Connor for about ten minutes while I was gone. When I got back I went into the kitchen and noticed something smeared on the floor. It looked clear and I couldn't tell what it was. Then I noticed the rug by the sink was up on the counter, wondered why? I felt the sticky puddle and realized that it was Karo syrup. I looked on the counter for the bottle and couldn't see it. I started to panic thinking about where he took the bottle. I guess I was lucky. Instead of it being all over the carpet somewhere he dumped the whole bottle down the sink.

3. I left an aresol can of upholstery cleaner on the counter (brand new). I could hear something in the kitchen but I couldn't tell what it was. I went in there and and he was spraying foam all over the window and the blinds and the sink. So now my windows and blinds are very clean!

4. He took a half of a bag of Doritos and scattered them all over the floor in the family room. Then after he adequately distributed them he decided to stomp on them. So there was a blanket of chip crumbs all over the carpet. I want to know what is going through his head when he is doing these things? Obviously not thinking about getting in trouble!

5. There are so many things he has done that I could make a book out of them! Some of the other messes this week included smearing yogurt all over the counter, pumping lotion onto the floor and Bryce's backpack, squirting the t.v. with Capri Sun juice, and drawing on the kitchen floor with crayons.

There are many other moments other than these. These are just the ones I can think of at the moment. Everyday Connor keeps me busy, mostly cleaning! AAAAGH!!! Good thing he's so cute! It's the only thing that has kept him alive!
